Premium Report - Return Rate Reports

Order/Product/Product Variant/Vendor Return Rate

Return Rate Reports are used to compare how much of something has been sold vs how much has been returned.

These reports all follow a very similar format - tracking your Return Rate on a per-order, per-product, per-variant or per-vendor basis.

As Premium Reports, these are available on all Paid Plans of Report Toaster. If you aren't signed up, follow these steps here to upgrade your account.

Let's look at the Order Return Rate as an example:

Here are a few terms to be familiar with in order to understand Return Rate Reports:

1.) Orders: The number of orders you had in a given month.

For example, if I had 1,268 Orders in April 2023, 1,268 would appear in the field.

2.) Returned Orders: The number of orders you had with at least one Line Item that had a Refund (partial or full refund) in a given month.

For example, if I had 48 Orders in April 2023 that had a Line Item with a Refund in them, 48 would appear in the field.

3.) Return Rate: The number of Returned Orders divided by the number of Orders x100.

For example, if I had 48 Returned Orders in April out of 1,268 total, the Return Rate would be 48/1,268 x 100 = 3.79%.

4.) Gross Sales: The Price x Quantity for those Orders.

For example, if I had 1,268 Orders in April, and the Price x Quantity of the goods on those orders equaled 229,535.06, then this would display in the column for that row.

5.) Returns: The refunded amount for the Line Items that were refunded on those particular orders.

For example, if I had 48 Returned Orders, and the refund amounts for the line items on those orders was 7,678.18, then this would display in the column for that row.

6.) Return Pct (%): The Returns divided by the Gross Sales x 100.

For example, if Returns was 7,678.18 and the Gross Sales was 229,535.06, then then the calculation would be 7,678.18/229,535.06 x 100 = 3.35%

For Product/Product Variant and Vendor Return Rate, it works very similarly but there are a couple of different fields to account for:

1.) Quantity: The number of units sold for a particular product/variant/vendor.

For example, if I sold 2,212 of the Sail on a Slice product, then the Quantity would display as 2,212.

2.) Quantity Returned: The number of units with a refund (partial or total) for a particular product/variant/vendor.

For example, if 55 units of the Sail on a Slice product had a refund, the Quantity Returned would display as 55.

3.) Quantity Returned (%): The Quantity Returned divided by the Quantity x 100.

For example, if I sold 2,212 of the Sail on a Slice product and 55 were Returned, then the calculation would be 55/2,212 x 100 = 2.46%

Like all Report Toaster reports, these reports are fully customizable - so you can adjust the date range, add/remove columns, introduce a filter or change the sort to suit your individual needs. See our basic guides here for more info.
