It's August, and this month, we're here to talk about some improvements to a few of our reports!
Updated Tax Reports
We've released a new Tax model that allows us to make some key improvements to our existing suite of tax reports.
There are a number of subtle changes to these reports, but we've highlighted the main differences below:
- Tax Refunds now reflect properly in their respective months. Before, if a $50.00 order was placed in July and fully refunded in August, the Taxable Sales would read as 0.00 on that order. Now, the taxable Sales will correctly read as $50.00 in July and -50.00 in August. This is crucial for handling tax refunds, especially if they apply in different quarters/years.
- Taxable Sales now include Shipping (if the Shipping is taxed). This is key, as before Shipping was listed as a separate column, which could make things more complicated to reconcile (especially if only some of your shipping charges were subject to tax). Now, if the shipping is subject to tax, Report Toaster will properly incorporate this amount directly into the Taxable Sales.
- Order Adjustments no longer deduct from Taxable Sales. This is crucial, as before any refund applied as an order adjustment (rather than to an individual line item) would automatically decrease the taxable sales total on the order. This was potentially misleading, as Order Adjustments can happen for a number of reasons that shouldn't necessarily lower the Taxable Sales total on an order.
- Tax Lines show details for individual Sales Lines. This makes it much easier to check taxes on an individual line item basis, especially if you have orders that mix taxable and non-taxable items in them. Now you can clearly see taxes apply to any sales, refunds, and shipping, all broken out individually. You can even add a column for Product Title to this report to see exactly which items are being taxed
Purchase Frequency
We've also made a quick addition to a couple of our existing reports to make Purchase Frequency available.
Purchase Frequency is the average number of orders placed by each customer, determined by dividing the number of Orders by the number of customers within the time frame selected.
Purchase Frequency = Total Orders / Total Customers. For more information about Purchase Frequency, see this Shopify guide here.
Purchase Frequency is something we've added to some existing default reports (e.g. Average Order Value Over Time & Most Purchased by Returning Customers), but you can also now add it as a column to any Sales report as well.
Does Not Contain (Filter Option)
You asked - we delivered. Does Not Contain is now an option in the filter menu. :)
This means you will no longer have to rely on Saved Filters to exclude certain variables from a report.
Finally, we have a great beta-feature available - the ability to see averages (e.g. Net Sales Average) expressed as both a Median and a Mode.
This helps merchants get a better picture of certain metrics, as sometimes it's more important to know the most common values or the middle of the range.
If you'd like to experiment with these new averages, contact us and we'd be happy to add these fields to your account.
