Premium Report - Product Cleanup

Product Cleanup

This report is for merchants who are looking to update and cleanup their products in Shopify.

Using this report, you can see exactly which products are missing which values, navigate directly to them in Shopify (click the hyperlink for each Product Title) and then update them accordingly.
You can find this report under Products in the left-hand menu.

As a Premium Report, this is available on all Paid Plans of Report Toaster. If you aren't signed up, follow these steps here to upgrade your account.

Note that by default, this report is filtered to display only active product variants (see Status, below) that have any missing details (see Issues, below).
You can remove any of these conditions from the filter to only look for the product variants you care about.

Here is what you need to be familiar with to understand the Product Cleanup report.

1.) Created at: The date for when the Product was first created.

For example, here I can see the Float - Gift Card was first created on 8/3/2022

2.) Updated at. The date for when the Product was last updated in your Shopify store.

For example, here I can see the Float - Gift Card was last updated on 3/27/2024

3.) Status: The Product's current status. Possible values include:
  1. Active - The product is ready to sell and can be published to sales channels and apps. This is the default state for existing products
  2. Archived - The product is no longer being sold and isn't available to customers on sales channels or apps.
  3. Draft - The product isn't ready to sell and isn't available to customers on sales channels or apps. Duplicated and unarchived products are set to Draft by default.
For example, the Float - Gift Card is active, meaning it is currently for sale on my store.
By default this report filters to active products, but you can easily delete this from the filter.

4.) Title: The name of the Product.

For example, the product is called Float - Gift Card
Note - you can actually click on this directly to navigate directly to the Product in your Shopify store.
From there, you can click on each individual variant to see the values for any Issues (below) and update them accordingly.

5.) Variant/Title : The name of the Product Variant.

For example, the Float - Gift Card has a $10, $25, $50 and $100 option.

6.) Issues: Which fields are missing for this Product Variant. Possible values include:
  1. Missing Compare at Price - This is an issue because you won't be able to accurately measure Markdown vs Full Price sales and see which of your Variants are most discounted.
  2. Missing Cost -  This is an issue because you won't be able to accurately measure Profit and this can directly hurt your bottom line.
  3. Missing Price - This is an issue because, aside from free samples, most products you sell will need a price.
  4. Missing Description - Most customers want at least a short description to provide details of what they're buying!
  5. Missing Barcode - Whether this is a Barcode, UPC or ISBN, these are often crucial to track and organize your inventory.
  6. Missing SKU - Again, the Stock Keeping Unit (SKU) is usually used in tracking and organizing inventory. You may also want to check out our Duplicate SKUs report as well.
  7. Missing Product Type - Typically this is useful to organize your products into unique categories, so if the values are blank, those items won't be included in Sales by Product Type report.
  8. Missing Weight - Doesn't matter for digital goods, but often vitally important for physical goods in the warehouse and especially for Shipping.
For example,  many of these variants in our demo store are missing a Barcode and a Product Type. This might make it difficult to manage inventory and assess sales on a grouped category basis.
Finally - If you want to see more details on any of the variants, then you can click the pop-up box on the right side of each row to see all of the relevant details. (including the current values for the above).

Like all Report Toaster reports, these reports are fully customizable - so you can add/remove columns, introduce a filter or change the sort to suit your individual needs. See our basic guides here for more info.
